SE SoDak | Eh, I think you might have it backwards. It is the desperate, deeply leveraged farmers that are more likely to plant late in an effort to hit a home run. (assuming we have a wet spring and get to June un-planted)
The "Saudi farmers" who are low cost, no loans, etc don't need to hit a home run. They got where they are in many cases by being risk-averse and making financial decisions instead of emotional ones. They know that on some at-bats you take the bad pitches and need to settle for a walk. | |
