I guess I didn't make that distinction. I suggested creating a new prescription where the map was a grid, not editing the layer as a grid. Try this.

1. Make a map of the old planting data
2. ADD to that map whatever layer you are trying to make a prescription from (yield, or soil test etc). Set the transparency to 50%
3. make it into a grid map
4. make a NEW prescription layer using the rates you want, and match to the legend of the data in step 2
5. when you get to the final screen where you see a full map of your prescription set the transparency to 50%, and you should see the planting data from step 1
6. use the paint can on the left to make the different rates where you need to, and save

I suppose depending on the base data you imported to SMS, some of these steps won't make sense, so in that case you need to add more details (and perhaps screenshots).

Gave this process a shot but without luck with what im trying to do. I ended up at stage "5" when i set the transparency to 50% and could then see both the zones and grid layers together. When clicking the paint can to "assign rate", it does not assign a rate to an individual block though, it just changes the rate for the entire zone that the grid is within. Also, if I try to draw a strip zone using the grid for a reference with the "divide by polygon" tool, which I did the original strip with, it does not create its own zone, but again assigned rate changes the entire zone area that its within. A couple screen shots showing the before and after of trying to assign to one individual block on the grid. What am I doing wrong?
