You are better off wearing cloth gloves than rubber ones. Viruses stick to cloth and has a very low rate of transfer. There is a much higher rate of transfer from rubber/nitrile gloves. Rubber gloves are great in the medical field to protect you from a doctor's transfer of germs in a sterile environment such as OP room. They are used onsite at accidents to protect paramedics from fluid transfers. Dentist uses them so when he sticks his dirty paws in your mouth he doesn't transfer something to you, but this only works if he doesn't touch anything else that is dirty and cross contaminates them.
Your safest bet is wearing course cloth ones. Take them off like you would dirty chemical gloves. It is a great idea doing this at the gas pump. Plus they are washable and reusable. If no gloves going into a store, use the cuff of your shirt or jacket.
Lysol and alcohol wipes are great but read the instructions. Many products say the product needs to wet the surface for several minutes and be allowed to dry before it is sterile. All products do not just kill germs like 2-4D on mustard on a hot day. Some are slower acting.
At the supermarket, it is best to use buddy system. One person pushes cart and opens the freezer doors at grocery store. Touches the places others are touching. Other person picks up the food and takes food out of cart at checkout. At checkout, cart person if in self checkout runs the scanner wand and pays bill. Only downside is now you have two people out.
