Baskin, Louisiana
Well, believe it or not, I am idling 10% of my ground this year. Granted it's the marginal stuff, but that's still bushels that won't be on the market. My theory is simple. If this particular field is just a break even or only slightly profitable, it sits out this year, and I can work on improving it this summer, i.e. improving drainage. I suspect that virtually ever farmer on here has some ground that they plant religiously, knowing it doesn't return a decent profit. :\ Let it rest a season.
