Covid19 is actually a form of SARS, coronavirus is just a shape of the virus, really dont know why it is being refered to as coronavirus but my guess would be a global SARS outbreak would cause way more panic then hearing something new and unheard of to most of the general public. In 2002 that virus was called SARS-CoV this one is SARS-CoV-2

I agree with previous posters, this strain is much more likely to keep a host alive, therefore it is much easier to spread, also there are many more people going in and out of China now than 20 years ago.
