South Central MN | Quite possible what made SARS and MERS more deadly also interfered with the ability of them to spread more easily, hence why they didn't get as far as COVID has. The higher mortality rate for a virus, the less likely the virus is to survive for the long haul, as killing off hosts it will run out of them. That isn't to say a "novel" virus like COVID couldn't have a much higher mortality rate and be able to easily pass from person to person but eventually that virus would cause its own extinction. | |
