Oftentimes it's cheaper, and therefore better on the environment, to use disposable things instead of washing. Especially when you want it really clean, like in a hospital. They deal with a lot of things that could be hard to clean out as well.

Washing, drying takes a fair amount of water, electricity, soaps, etc. They are more expensive to buy and don't last forever, although they look like a better idea at the current time than nothing.
