Make sure the calm cow has good easy milk flow. Put her in chute, direct calf to appropriate place. Stand watch him suck. Put cow in pen and calf with her. Put her in chute again at night to make sure calf sucks. Repeat 2 times a day. When calf starts to want to suck on own, try with cow crowded to corner of pen and you watching. Then calf should start trying on own over several days. After 3 weeks hopefully you have success and can let pair out on own.

I don't bother with any products or skinning and I do this with holstein calves and have only not had it take once in 20 yrs (2 or 3 a year)
