So is the "yield lost" due to low soil pH, or is it due to aluminum toxicity?   It has been my impression that the real issue with low soil pH is aluminum toxicity, not soil pH per se.  So, you could grow crops in low pH soils if you didn't have the aluminum toxicity issue to deal with.  The real reason to apply lime is to raise the soil pH to the point where the aluminum is tied up, and aluminum toxicity is not an issue.  At least, that has been my understanding.    

Back to the OP question......  I don't know the answer to that.
