But you could report employees you laid off yesterday. Too likely to have fraud in the US imo. The payroll tax deferral provision and the small business loans are a more structured way to protect taxpayer monies. May take a little more time, sure.
What we need is work to do, not jobs. If the economy has work to accomplish the rest takes care of itself. Folks spending their stimulus or unemployment helps do that. But to do work you need companies financially sound enough to manage and organize that work. Workers need equipment, materials, etc. to have a job to do. You can't save the workers without saving their employers.
My construction companies has workers who are working everyday building two high schools. We don't need anything reimbursed. But we could say we did, as a big chunk of our payroll is family.
