I noticed you didn’t say that Pipeline doesn’t buy imported grain. Is your business model such that you have to?
You didn’t say how you would avoid fraudulent imports. I think we would all like to here a strategy.?
The Organic Trade Association has very little incentive to stifle fraudulent imports which will raise grain prices. OTA represents the ones buying the grain. Cheap Grain is good for their bottom line. Some of them are very short sighted.
Pipeline forward contracted to sell a large amount of organic corn last year at a much lower price than farmers were being paid. Why would they do that? They could only fill those contacts with cheap imports or lower prices to farmers. This isn’t just responding to the market, this is moving the market lower.
“Organic” grain came to the US from the Black Sea region when the Europeans realized it was not organic. Why is the US the dumping grounds for this stuff? This is not a Pipeline only problem, but if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem, IMHO.
