NE South Dakota Clark, SD | That makes for a tough start. We test all rams before we turn them out, especially for fall lambing, due to synchronizing. We also test all sale rams when we have blood drawn for B-Ovis. This is in May and most don't sell until July or later. They could test bad 2 weeks later. Any good breeder should give you a replacement ram. Over our 70 years with registered Hampshires, we have replaced a few. We have also been on the other end from time to time. All good breeders sell in good faith, but once they leave the farm it is out of their control. If the ram had a fever shortly before breeding, that could make him no good. Several gave you some good recommendations about paint harness to watch for rebreeding. |
