On avg we go maybe 4-5". It can go 6-8 but usually dont need to. Just making shallow ditches that aren't horrible to cross. We use it in no till and worked ground. If it's real hard 4 inches may be it. Usually past the end rows you need to raise it out a little or you have too deep of one.
