Going to try and provide a link to 2009 crop talk oats growing /fertility chat.
Edit:dont seem to have mental ability to provide the link ((.
Upshot seems to be that further north you are less n can be used to get yeild.
"Here", oats like loose worked dry soil, 3bus. seed rate, seeded as early as possible. Our best oats need to be seeded in March, earlier the better. I use 100 units n shooting for 100 bus. Straw would be 3-4tall, and some lodging can/does occur, but if you cut before grain is ripe, it would be minimal, here.
As i have been informed on here more than once, I don't know how to grow oats.....so.....good luck! Dumb Farmer
