Subject: RE: Strip-Till

Central Michigan
We strip till in the spring here in Michigan because it works for ‘us’. In the past 4 years we have variable rate applied the 28/ammonium sulphate in the strip 7 inches down. We apply the rest of the N/ammonium sulphate as side dress at 25 gal/acre. Works well. We have not variable rate applied the P or K in the strip. That is broadcasted prior to the growing season. Id like to do that but it would add a lot of time and complications to the strip till guy and i am not a patient person.

Cover crops on 1/3 of our ground. I like all of these burned down late into the fall or at least 3 weeks before strip tilling with sharpen and RU. This leaves a very good seedbed with minimal clods due to root balls. The strip tiller is a 2510S JD and we use row cleaners on a 1775 JD planter.
