West Central Wisconsin | Lost 14 lbs. and am just over 3 weeks into it. I'm type 2 diabetic and was taking 90 units of insulin a day. My biggest concern about going on it was going low sugar. I had been decreasing carbs for a week before going cold turkey and had eliminated 50 units of insulin in that time. During the weaning of carbs I did go low one night and made the decision to stop insulin altogether and I have not taken a shot for 3 weeks now and I love that aspect! My blood sugar has been ranging 95-115 which are very good numbers for me. I have a "coach" at morning coffee and that has been a big help. He told about the keto "flu", which I went through, and to eat when I'm hungry. About a week into it I wasn't hungry one morning and made it to lunch time without getting weak. I never would have been able to go without timely meals when on insulin! Now it's not really a problem. My realistic goal is to at least get down to a body mass index of 30, which should qualify me for the Inspire sleep apnea implant. My goal I've been thinking about is to get down to my weight at graduation but that may be to lofty of a goal. I'm really amazed at what carbs have done and how they can affect my body. Meals during planting and harvest may be a challenge but I think I can get through ok. | |
