People are gonna buy stuff they can put on a shelf.

That is why they bought up all the toilet paper. It’s something they need, something they can store, it gives safety and security with no risk of spoiling. They can control their part of the world by buying safe toilet paper.

For food they will buy hamburger and soup cans and microwaveable stuff they can set on the shelf. Hamburger will be the fresh deal treat, the rest for the dark unknown weeks ahead.

Without a care in the world we were getting to grilling season, party season, buy the speedier cuts. That went out the window now.

Food service that supplies the big events has to be in quite a turmoil. We aren’t selling food to 16 basketball stadiums and similar hockey stadiums 2-5 nights a week, baseball openers with 40,000 people canceled orders, and on and on and on.

If you were a buyer and seller in the middle of that you would go very defensive and hunker down, money just ran screaming away from buying food.

Sure people gotta eat next month, but the pattern just changed and no one really knows. So orders dry up, we stockpile cheaper and canned prepackaged stuff, the rest of the money sits out waiting a while.

I think next week even will be different already, but this all broke open on a Thursday, Friday was reaction day, no one wants their money sitting around all weekend exposed, so every market possible shrunk up everyone took their purse and went home over the weekend, catch a breather and see what’s up come Monday.

What if packing plants get affected or ordered closed or who knows, all that scare takes people out of the market over the weekend....
