Missouri

IL cow man - 3/14/2020 08:24  Exactly the same thing as 96. Expanded for promised meat sales to Japan and other Asians countries. Expansion without slaughter capacity increases to kill the hogs

There's been several quietly predicting this from ASF. The US ramps up to meet a perceived need that doesn't really materialize. Meanwhile, China uses their in country crash to transition as many pigs as they can under roof and the increases in efficiency and production make the problem in the US even worse. I managed to get in a discussion with a state representative, a college ag program coordinator, and a state FFA coordinator a while back and all three had concerns about the new hog buildings being built by guys trying to stay on the farm. These three happen to be hog guys from birth and each still own a few in one way or another, but they all three make a habit of staying on top of the industry as a whole. I found it interesting that all three were on the exact same page as that's a rarity.

Now that the Kung Flu has everyone's attention it's kind of went to the back burner and isn't getting talked about much.
