Subject: Putting a bandaid on the silo chute

north-central Indiana west of Fulton
When the “clean chute” was installed on our early 70s Madison silo’s climbing chute (in the 80s), a guy with no experience, and obviously not enough instructions did the job. The holes cut in the metal weren’t at the right location to match the silo doors. The short story is....more steel had to be cut out to correct the mistake. It was made to work all these years , but the strength of the chute was compromised. Rust and metal fatigue has allowed it to move so much in high winds, I was concerned it would simply come apart soon.
If you could even find someone to replace the whole thing, the cost would be too much to even consider. Just wanted to get more time out of the silo before it is abandoned.
Hoping the pole barn strips of steel screwed to each side of the poly clean chute will hold things together for some more years. Our neighbor sells grain equipment and just installed a new grain blower pipe system for us....and he let us use his bucket lift.
