Missouri | Just wanting to shoot this idea off you guys. We have a considerable amount of wheat this year and decided to pull the trigger on a Shelbourne Reynolds stripper head. The thought process here is that leaving the residue knee high will help keep ground temps cooler and help hold moisture in the soil. Ideally, we'll be right behind the combine with the air seeder dropping in 175k population soybeans into the stripped straw. Here's where it gets interesting; right behind that will be a roller, rolling the standing stripped straw flat for 100% residue to ground coverage.
Fire away - how dumb is this plan? | |
