Henderson, Minnesota
If the blade operator is properly equipped and doing his/her job, there is no need for reclaimers. First off make sure the grader moldboard is long enough, 16' preferably. The proper length allows the operator to pull the edges in early in the spring before the sod gets established. Cut this early sod growth and roll it into the crown. Start building the crown as soon in the spring as the roads are gradeable. Normal amounts of sod disappear after two or 3 trips in the spring. Under normal conditions start working the excess gravel into the crown after Labor Day so when winter comes there is little excess gravel to plow off. Furthermore, most of the gravel pushed off by snowplows is pushed too far into the ditch for the reclaimer to catch.
