East central iowa | God this is terrible, everyone seems to know how to do your job best. Get your a$$ out there and apply to run a grader for your county then. Most don’t know what it’s like to run a motor grader.
I keep my roads at 4%, seems to be the least amount of bitching (happy medium) 5% is better
I pull shoulders in every late winter / very early spring basically when it freezes every night/day it helps break dirt up and the rock comes to the top. The grass breaks up nicely as it’s dead/dried up.
Yes the road can become muddy if it rains for three days. Deal with it now or deal with ponds on the side of roads for 6 months.
Most people I know love when I pull shoulders in, it’s a necessary evil. Like it or not, move to town if you can’t handle it.
July/August can make for some good shoulder work as well.
