Wyffels has some very stringent guidelines they follow
Yep, Wyffelsis is very good at this and might be able to tell you up front what each lot of their non-gmo seed corn specifically test before you plant any.
Where I'm at, CGB requires a 3 ppm or less contamination level, which is as strict as any I know of. Some seed companies don't even try for that level of purity in their non-gmo lineup.
It is possible to have the seed corn tested (my local elevator has done it) and that number carries thru to what it produces + any pollen pick up. In my experience, if you can start with 2 ppm or less gmo contaminated seed corn, I can place it where it doesn't pick up enough surrounding gmo pollen very often to exceed 3 ppm. Often I plant my non-gmo corn earlier than surrounding fields to help avoid surrounding fields being on the same time frame when it's pollinating, but even if that's not the case, usually it's just the end rows that are too high if you started with pure non-gmo corn seed. |
