Pittsburg, Kansas | Thanks for that info!
I had never gotten around to looking it up. We buy some Grace brand Mackeral down here and you are right, they are in a standard size round can, whole fish minus head, I think 3 fish in a can. To me they taset about like sardines, still an oily smaller fish. We can buy a can of them with about twice the amount of fish for about the same price as a tin of sardines. But we like the sardines in olive oil so much that is what we usually buy. They are actually filleted herring with the skin side folded in so you see the fillet when opening the tin.
Today I doubled down. Opened up a tin of the Grace brand sardines, drained the water, opened a tin of the Brunswick brand with olive oil, dumpd both in a dish, added another tablespoon of EV olive oil, added mustard and capers. Served along with a bag of pork rinds.
Nice between dives lunch. The capers and mustard really add a lot of flavor.
