Pittsburg, Kansas | That is the normal response of someone that is used to eating something with carbs several times a day. The body is expecting the glucose rush, and when it doesn't get it the body runs out of energy because it has lost part of its ability to effectively use the stored fat for usage.
Once a person is on a low carbohydrate diet for several weeks, intermittant fasting or time restricted feeding becomes kind of the natural progression because hunger is controlled. Then it becomes easy to skip a meal without that knawing hunger. Once a preson becomes fat adapted where their mitocondria become accustomed to switching fuels and the liver becomes accustomed to producing ketones for fuel, then fasting becomes pretty easy.
But if you start from a high carb beginning eating six or seven times a day (that sugar soda pop mid morning and afternoon counts) then yes, it is going to be miserable for a few days.
Kritzy doing an extended fast is something that a person wants to do his research, especially on electrolytes and re-feeding, before attempting it. Also be aware of any medication interactions. It is not something most people want to enter into lightly.
Dr Jason Fung is one of the leading experts on fasting.
