Wi | I think ladder is really simple and straightforward. Very visual. But the only other language I know is C and I don't know it well or spend enough time with it to be fast with it.
This software (Productivity Suite) is free if you want to play with it. Their Click software is much simpler and less daunting. Neither have a good way to Sim without a PLC though. Do-More has a built in simulator but can be a bit clunky to navigate. All are free. The HMI software (C-More) can be downloaded for free but needs a license to flash. They have a free versions with fewer features also.
