Subject: eating fat and carbs together

Pittsburg, Kansas
Absolutely.

The reason is pretty simple actually.

What does sugar/carbohydrates do to insulin? They raise insulin levels.

What does insulin signal/cause the body to do? Store excess energy as fat. It is a fat storage hormone among many other functions.

So if you eat a fatty steak along with sugar (baked potatoe and bread would do it just great also), insulin is raised and not only to the excess carbs go to body fat storage, so does the ingested fat along with it. So fat CAN make you fat.............if you eat it with a load of carbohydrates.

But if you have the fatty ribeye steak with some brocolii or salad or something else low carb enough so insulin in not spiked, insulin does not raise much above basal rate, glucagon is elevated, and the ingested fat is burned instead of stored. Insulin and glucagon levels are the key. For the body to be in fat burning mode, insulin has to be low and glucagon elevated.

So if you want to gain weight and get fat, eat excess calories in a big ole ribeye, baked potato, side of corn and several slices of bred as an appetizer before dinner. If you want to lose weight, eat the big ole ribeye but order it with a side of brocolii or mushrooms or salad or green beans (being mindful the resturant didn't add a bunch of sugar to something or the salad dressing is loaded with sugar).

Ben Bikman explains it the best. Watch this one and you will likely know more about nutrition and how insulin is related than 95% fof the doctors out there.
