Oregon | Quite a few years ago before my wife and I were married, she needed a molar pulled and some other dental work done. She didn't have insurance. We went to several dentists and got the same run-around "with insurance, the procedure will cost between $2000 -$2700, if you don't have insurance we wont do it". I asked to talk to one of the dentists and told him she doesn't have insurance and that there had to be a cash price because we don't have another choice. He said, kind of thinking out loud, "well if you schedule the last appointment on Friday before memorial day weekend, I can do it for $400 cash and still make a couple hundred for my vacation". I am grateful he did it and realize he has a business to run but it was an eye opener on just how much they inflate the charges and the money they skim off of insurance. | |
