I agree vacuuming power supply and CPU heat sink would be a good first step.

Also check that all the fans are turning freely--CPU, power supply, and if there is a fan-cooled video card especially check that.

While you have the case open, check for bulged electrolytic capacitors on the motherboard They are cylinder shape parts of varying size, with silver aluminum tops scribed with an X. The tops should be perfectly flat. They degrade over time, visually exhibited by bulging on the top and eventually breaking out the X. Since a lot of consumer electronics get built based on the lowest bid components, electrolytic cap degradation is a common cause of device failure (basically leads to noise or erratic voltage on the power supply which affects operation).
