Thanks for that link. I had read/heard about that guy from multiple sources but did not have my finger on a source for the information.

I think the electrolyte replacement is why it is called the snake oil diet. The snake oil is basically the water replacement and has salt, magnesium and potasium in it (and bicarbonate of soda). So I think (without me doing any reading or research on the diet) that would be addressing the mineral loss.

There is science behind the ketones supplying the energy in starvation mode. Can't put my finger on it, but they had subjects inject insulin that lowered blood glucose to an average of 30 (some lower, some higher) but they were is a high state of ketosis. No symptoms of low blood sugar. 30 would normally be assiciated with unconsiousness. They also did cognative tests on the subjects and they were perfectly normal.

That was an old study and such a thing probably would not pass the ethics board to do the research today.
