And now that most of them have transitioned to a "modern" diet they have some of the highest levels of obesity and diabetes and heart disease. It was unheard of when they were on their traditional diet.

One line of thought, which makes sense to me, is that evolution created us to utilize things like seasonal fruits to gain body fat for the coming winter time of scarcity. Fruit is high in fructose, which bypasses the digestion process and goes directly to the liver to be processed into fat. Want a fatty liver (ie NAFLD non alcoholic fatty liver disease)? Eat lots of fruit and other sources of fructose (table sugar is half fructose half glucose and high fructose corn syrup is only slightly higher in fructose).

Fatty liver disease is so prevelant, many doctors do not even tell their patients they have it (that information from various doctors).

We were meant evolutionarily to eat fruits in season when they were in abundance. Late summer and fall. To fatten up for the winter.

With our modern food supply, winter never comes dietetically speaking. We fatten up year around.
