Subject: saturated fat

Pittsburg, Kansas
My wife and I also.

Even if we have steak or soup or meatloaf or hamburgers, more often than not bacon is either included or put around or added over the top. Good source of saturated fat.

One caveat. If you eat a lot of fat along WITH a high carb meal, that fat will mostly go to body fat because the carbs are going to spike insulin and when insulin is high extra energy, carbs or fat, will go to body fat.

So if a person is going to eat high fat meals and does not want to gain weight, it needs to be in the context of a low carbohydrate meal where insulin levels will stay low.

Want to gain weight? Eat a fatty steak like a ribeye along with high carbs like sides of baked potato and corn. Or mashed potatoes and gravy. Or rice.

Want to lose weight? Eat the same fatty ribeye but make the sides low carb so insulin will stay low. Sides like brocolli, green beans, cauliflower, salad, etc. Even bacon!

Insulin levels HAVE to be low to burn body fat. That is why eating fat will make you skinny when in the context of a low carb diet but not a high carb diet. Fat will make you fat if eaten along with a high carb load. Once a body is "fat adapted" (takes a couple weeks) the body preferentially burns fat for fuel (fatty acids and ketones) and reduces the amount of glucose in the blood. Perfect for people over weight, insulin resistant (pre-diabetic) or diabetic.
