Subject: Lets see your cabs...

Bourbon, Indiana
Just got done wiring all our monitors in our tractor and when I was done I thought to myself "holy cow that's alot of wires" My cab consists of Dickey john soybean monitor, Early riser monitor, Marker control box, Raven sprayer controller, Ez-guide 500, ez-steer, and my record keepin Ipaq running Farm works software.

I don't think I could run another single wire in our cab without haveing voltage issues or being able to see out the cab...lol....

I was gonna post a pic but my camera batteries went dead and I'm out.

So I just thought I'd post on here and see what others cabs look like with all the gizmo's these days.

thanx

Yes, those cabs can sure get filled with a lot of monitors! I don't have a picture off hand either, but in our main loader tractor I've had the Outback S GPS, JD Bale Track monitor, JD Moisture monitor, Laurier/Highline Bale Picker control box & Bale King Control box in all at the same time. lol What would we do without all of this technology!

Pretty soon you'll need autosteer just so you can watch all the other gizmos. I'm working on the new generation monitor bracket system to make the gps and pf transferrable between sprayer and planter. Gonna take some work to fit the anhydrous monitor in with the planter monitor and still have them in plain sight...

Couple of pics of the 285 with the Summers Sprayer. Ive got the Raven 450 the EZ boom, the 500 the XM radio and the switch box for folding the sprayer and the remote boom section control box. Everything is in easy reach of my right hand. Lots of wires, wish I had a pic of that, maybe this spring when I put it all back in again.

Lets get that tractor and sprayer wheelbase spread out to 120" then you will really have a sprayer. Looks good. Who needs a self propelled when you get a rig set up like that.

Don't have any pics since it won't be in until Spring/Summer, but the way it's looking I think I will have a busy cab this year in the 7830.

1. EZ500 + EZ-Steer
2. Camera Monitor
3. AGCO 7434 baler monitor (GTA-I monitor)
4. Accumulator switches box for above mentioned baler
5. HayBoss G2 hay preservative monitor
6. HarvestTec RFID bale tagger
7. (microwave) baler mounted moisture tester monitor
8. Possibly a laptop

I really like Stick-Eye's layout, and Martin Farm's laptop mount....

.....we need to start demanding that tractor manufacturers include a computer built into the cabs that is standardized across all makes where a guy can just upload controller software to run all of this stuff. Seems kind of foolish to see the literature on these new tractors bragging about all the glass they have and how good the visibility is when it all gets blocked by hanging numerous monitors in the way.

There should be a standardized computer, software, and cable hook-ups for all of this - just like hydraulic hook-ups, pto, and 3 point hitches. Maybe this is already coming - I don't keep up on the latest & greatest like I should, but this looks crazy to me. We mount our planter monitor in our Genesis to plant and it comes out immediately upon finishing. We spray with a different tractor and the sprayer controller stays on that tractor, but we have it mounted in a place where it doesn't obstruct the view or get in the way.

I have also thought it was dumb that they don't provide a good spot to mount two-way radios too. With all the plastic in these modern cabs, it's hard to find a spot to put the bracket that is strong enough to take the vibration. How hard or expensive could it be to provide a solid place to mount a radio?

I should have mentioned that I mean no offense to the set-ups you guys have shown. I know it is all necessary and these are some remarkably well designed and installed set-ups. It just seems as though that with today's technology, we should be demanding a "cleaner" approach to running all of this stuff.

Or one of these?

Oh wait Trimble and Ag Leader don't offer one.

The new R series from Deere that everyone is mocking before they've even seen one will include such a display from the factory. Hopefully it is bigger than their current offerings because with all of the features integrated into it, it is going to be a busy screen.

It's called ISOBUS and all the big three have it at least optional if not standard. That round 9-pin breakaway connector on the back of new tractors abides by this standard. One size fits all.

When you plug in to the connector, the terminal in the tractor can display the screens that a implement uploads. There are a lot of other uses but that's the big one.

Not all implement manufacturers are offering it yet but plenty are.  I think they will be undersold if they don't get on board with it soon.  There is no reason why you should have to buy their expensive monitor when you already have one.

What in the world is running on all of that stuff?  It looks to me like some of those have to be redundant!

We have several things which will plug together with the neat little Deusch plug you are talking about, but when you plug them together, nothing happens.   Have to get the parts that go together in order for anything to work.

Well it could be either side that isn't working and I don't have a good answer on how you can tell. Deere has had this connector for a long time but I think it was pinned out different in the beginning. Maybe someone can verify that. I know that my C-Series Challenger will work with a new Deere air seeder but not a two year old one.

I'm interested in what equipment you have with that connector (tractor and implement). Model numbers and year would help. I can do some research and find out more for you. Are you sure your monitor is a virtual terminal?

I'm not sure of anything.  I was led to believe the equipment was all supposed to be compliant but I had my doubts, so when setting up I just went ahead and tried it.

Baler is AGCO, uses GTA-1.  Planter is CIH, uses Pro600.  Pro600 will not acknowledge baler.  Have not tried the other way because I was already told that the planter frame control was non compliant.

Also have Datatronic on a tractor which has the connector, but it seems obvious to me that it is incapable of operating either the planter or the baler.

Subject: RE: ISOBUS

The GTA Console 1 is a compliant VT and is working as one for the baler. According to the AFS website the Pro600 can be used as a VT if you have the right software: "Virtual Terminal: 21.1 - required to use the AFS Pro 600 as an ISOBUS Virtual Terminal". If you had that software, the baler and the Pro600 would play together. Believe it or not the manufacturers get together and plug each others components in to one another to make sure they work. I would be surprised if these two haven't been plugged together and tested already.

Now the bad news... I don't think the planter is ISO compliant. If not, it doesn't use the Pro600 as a VT. I could be wrong but I don't see any bragging about it on the CIH website so I think it's a good bet.

BTW, what is the Datatronic in? MT600? It may also be a VT. Looks nearly identical to the GTA right?

Yes, it is in a MT600...first generation circa 2000.  No, I would not really say it looks much like the GTA-1, other then appearing to have similar design influences in terms of controls...especially the dial on the side to select choices with.  Other then that, it looks more like the TI-30s we used in high school with a small display that is integrated in the cab post....it appears to pretty much just be a text display.

The tractor has another AMP plug on it's harness, up where one would mount a display, however it does not match the GTA-1.  Fieldstar, perhaps?

Judging by the work I did today, I'm guessing I'm going to spend tomorrow learning about all the software which has NOT been installed in my pro600.  I think it is missing some of what I need to run the planter the way I wish.  Perhaps when it's all said and done it will run the baler.  It is the one I would expect to be the most capable device we have.

I have been told by people who should know that the planter can not be operated by VT, but that it might be able to be monitored from it.

My email is in my profile.  I would be interested in learning more if you are willing to contact me.  mkviets(a)ckt.net

Case IH can't steer your Deere tractor, Trimble can. Case IH uses Trimble software and equipment to do so, and that hasn't even been released yet. Are you sure it is going to?

Deere can steer their own air carts, run CNH planting equipment, run Great Plains planting equipment, run Horsch drills, and many other things just using 1 monitor in your cab. The Case IH monitor can kinda sorta do these things but it's not a full fledged ISO task controller.

Yes, Trimble/CaseIh can steer the Deere with their platform kit to tie into the auto trac, but the Deere can't steer the 7010.  In fact the Deere 2600 can't even run my 1780 planter, so I have been told by my dealer but they have been wrong many times before.

I think that's what this "Can Bus" concept is all about. All equipment, tractors, planters, sprayers, combines, ect, will have a wire harness that can be hooked together and communicate. Greenstar display can be plugged into a CAT tractor, running a Trimble GPS, which is all hooked to a Kinze planter. I'm not sure, but I think the manufacturers are a few years away from implementation.

From what I understand, there are currently some liability issues with opening up vehicle control to other parties. I don't think it would be that hard for Deere or anybody else to make their autosteer setups ISO compliant, but the liability thing comes up. Where does one draw the line as to who is at fault for a major malfunction that could cause harm, etc.

This is also why I don't think you'll see Trimble or anyone else doing endrow functions any time soon. Big gime liability involved when you start controlling functions other than just driving straight.
