Subject: Re: Drought a $1 billion disaster in Texas

Central Texas , Bastrop county
I live in what has been described as the worst drought area in Texas ( Travis, Williamson and Bastrop counties) , My records show rainfall for 2008 was only 16 inches, where normally our average is around 36 to 40 inches. The other day there was an article in the local newspaper about a rancher commenting about the dry weather: he said he and his family had been on this ranch since 1946 and he had never
seen his stock tank (pond) dry up till this year. Many of my friends are severly culling their herds or selling out completely. I have sold off a few, but I am in a little better shape than most since there is a small creek running through the property, and I pump out the creek to irrigate some of the pasture. The creek always flows since it is the effluent from the waste water treatment plant from a nearby small town.
