East central Iowa | I discovered that temperature affects taste. Some mornings my coffee tasted better than others. I happen to have one of those handheld devices that you can aim at something and see the temperature. It was sitting on my desk and on a lark, the morning that coffee tasted really good, I pointed it at the coffee. In my case the temperature was 131°. I've experimented and found that hotter doesn't taste, just burns and cooler doesn't taste as good. A few degrees cooler is fine but dropping below 120° seems to make a significant loss of flavor for me.
The sweet spot for different people will be different I assume. Just something you might want to experiment with and extend to other foods or drinks.
