I'd you can't afford to buy the half, I would split it off and sell it. Even if they decide to keep it and rent it to you, i would still split it up for when they finally decide to sell off their portion. I would even get a contract with the other sister about which side of the remaining half is yours and hers. If she ever decides to sell it will be easier since you already know which portion is yours. You can focus on maintaining and improving your land and not worry about making improvements to shared land and having to pay more when it is split up later. See if she will give you a right of first refusal on it also. | |
