| Better define “shop” first. An oversized garage attached to your living space, sure. A shop where fabrication, welding, painting, engine overhauls are routine, meh maybe not so much.
I wouldn’t chase too much in the way of dollar savings or tax deductibility. Plumbing, electric, cabinets, countertops, etc etc going to be a wash on cost vs other approaches. Maybe the biggest advantage I can see is that a weathertight shell can be put up almost as fast as a modular home, but without the floor plan restrictions of structural walls in a modular.
I’ve got a good friend who did it this way and his place is awesome for what he spent. | |
