Subject: RE: Gleaner market share in the mid 1970's

Higginsville, MO
Gleaner was number one here up till the 80s and the farm crisis. Id say 75 percent of the the farmers owned a gleaner but having the plant 30 miles away helped a bit. They still have a good reputation in most eyes but the lack of dealer support has destroyed everything in the area. There are still a few, more than most know. The loss of Allis and how the kept their dealer network has really shown. Most are afraid if they buy one they wont get serviced which is true to some extent. Though most things on the machine can be fairly easily repaired by the farmer but most dont want to do the work.
