Here in southwest IL they were plentiful in the late 70'sand early 80's. If I had to guess I bet they had 1/3rd of the market share around here at one time. Even a lot of die hard Deere guys ran Gleaners. There are still a couple around but I would have to guess in the 5 counties around me their market share has to be under 5%. The early N series machines were problematic which was the beginning of the end. Then in the 90's their dealer network around here completely collapsed. At one time I could drive to at least 8 dealerships within 1 hour of my house. Now I have 1 15 minutes away and the next one is almost 2 hours away. We ran Gleaners until 2008. The poor parts supply and minimal dealer support killed them. Once they got to the RX2 series they were very good machines.
Pretty much the same here , used to be several dealers somewhat close and several Gleaners in the neighborhood. Now , only a couple dealers in northern Indiana....and few Gleaners on area farms. |
