Subject: New ATSC 3.0 Broadcast standards for OTA

Antenna Man attended this year's CES (formerly, Consumer Electronics Show) in Vegas, specifically to investigate the new ATSC 3.0 broadcast standards for over-the-air TV stations.

He has some interesting features of 3.0, that may concern OTA viewers.

1.) 3.0 is a two-way broadcast standard, meaning the TV station will know more about you.

2.) Knowing more about you, expect the commercials to be focused to you. More ads for pick-ups and seed corn / less about feminine hygiene products.

3.) It may be possible for TV stations to deny you access to their broadcasts unless you subscribe and pay a fee. I can see sporting events being the big focus on this.

4.) It may also be possible to totally deny you viewing rights if you don't live within their FCC market.

He is also emphatic there is NO SUCH THING as a Color, High-definition, 4k TV antenna. An antenna simply picks up signals on frequencies - doesn't matter if it's color, 4k etc. So don't fall for marketing ploys trying to get you to buy their better stuff.

Here is his video.
