Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | I read on the Ethanol sites that E85 is only 85% E in the warmest months,in the cooler months the blend goes down to 50% E. Fuel economy on E85 varies by if or not an engine can adjust itself to take advantage of the higher Octane of ehtanol. A low compression engine that is within normal settings when using 87 octane gasoline, may not see any efficiency benefit from E 85's 100 octane and can lose up to 25% fuel economy. My Dodge 4.7 is a high compression engine that has to electronically detune itself to run on 87 octane gas,yet runs at top efficiency settings on high octane E 85,so I have not seen more than a 10% drop in MPG. |
