Subject: E-mail downloads and .dat files

North East Wimmera district of Victoria.

G'day!  Christmas is coming down under too!  Happy Christmas to all NAT'ers!

An old school mate sent me their Christmas news as a Winmail.dat file.

Clicked on it on my Win10 laptop, but it would not open - directing me to choose what program I wished to use to open it. I'm no nerd, so asked google on my mobile [cell] phone. google said download the Android App.

Did that but then the email is not available to my Andriod, as it has downloaded to my home computer [Win7!]  No longer available on the Win 10 laptop, for the same reason. Guess I need to look at my providers settings  - maybe emails can be set to stay on the server for a couple of days!

On the old Win 7 I asked google again, and was informed to try Notepad.  Good - I understand that!  But ?? does Notepad cope with photos?  'Cause in the past his newsletters have got family photos embedded.

But now for some reason my mate's attachment is no longer on his email.

Sent to him asking to send his Christmas news again, and also to make it a .pdf file for my convenience.

I know this is a bunch of spaghetti -  but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
