I've considered doing away with landline, but my concerns are the same as your regarding 911. It was confirmed last Fall when a neighbor woke up to some noise at midnight and looked out to see his dairy barn on fire. His wife grabbed the cell phone, called 911 and the operator asked for their location. When she told them the town, the operator had to ask her where that was at!
