Subject: RE: Have you gotten rid of the "hard-wired" home phone?

I learned my lesson here in Bixby. One night my wife woke up unable to breathe due to a Hiatal hernia allowing stomach contents to arise which blocked her breathing. She could not make a sound but slapped my feet as she ran for the bathroom. I followed her in there and gave her the heimlick (sp) and got her started breathing again. I don't even know if I did it rightbut she did survive.

We did not have a land line at the time thinking we didn't need it. The next morning I ordered one and it was installed that day. My wife and I were in our mid 60's at the time and her mother was in her upper 80's and I figured the odds were that we would need an ambulance at some time. With the land line, emergency services know where to find you whe you are in distress. Cell phones may take them longer.

I tell you it is scarey as hell an event such as that. We have ambulances one mile from our house but thankfully we didn't need one that time.
