Lubbock, Texas | you want to bust up the root ball of the trees throughly if they are ball and burlap.....if they are bare root you want to make sure ALL the roots are pointing downward and you do NOT poke the trees in so that the roots hit the bottom of the hole and then J back up or hit the sides of the holes and J back up...so all the roots pointing down
you want the hole one to two inches bigger around than the ball or the roots and then you want to take any of the soil that came off the ball of the tree when you brook up the roots and incorporate it in with the soil from the hole and then return that mix of soil to fill back in the hole........you want a small ridge of soil about one or two inches bigger around than the drip line of the tree circling around the tree to retain water......when you water it is MUCH better to water less often deeper than it is to water small amounts more often
you want to make sure the sides of the holes are loose soil and they are not slicked off from the sides of the shovels you may need to get in there with a smaller hand tool and loosen up the sides of the holes VS letting a hard slick surface remain on the sides of the hole
you want to be sure your apples have a pollinator......your peaches should self pollinate (well the bees will do the work if no bees use a small paint brush) your plums will probably also need a pollinator as well or you will not get a lot of fruit
if you are short on space you can graft a branch of a pollinator onto your apple and your plums
I would not mix fertilizer in at planting I would wait until you see some early signs of fresh growth and until you are sure all frost spells are over and then fertilize
