THe problem you are seeing is not enough water--I don't think it is a problme of the pivot.

"Standard" pivots (the most typical) are 1/4 mile long and cover about 125 acres. We have a few that are 3/8 mile long, and cover a square 3/4 of a mile x 3/4 of a mile. We are limited by how fast our soil can absorb the water.

I'll bet the 1/2 mile long systems (full section) are on sandy ground WITH a good well and some pretty good sized pipe on the inside towers to move the water. The pivot can still go around plenty fast enough--it just puts out a LOT of water at the end.
