I have worked on old computers that are just so old they don't have good enough usb ports -
try all the usb ports..... check the connected speed on the removable usb wireless network adapter in the same spot in the house on a good machine and the slow machine.....
I have used a 6" USB cable "tail" to move or reorient the wireless adapter with some success also
