Denmark
Hello Ben.

Same thing in Germany. They have had a penalty system like that since September last year. DK and Germany are the only countries I know of having this problem.
The real problem, I guess, is that it is not possible to turn off and on the huge commercial powerplants on short notice. Also the use of electricity is lower at nights and that is where the problem arouses.

Does wind energy pay?
I recently read an article where it was calculated that break even for wind generated electricity and oil generated was a crude oil price of 72 USD/barrel. That was for land based windmills. Oceanbased (which is being planned here for the coming years) carry a break even of 110 USD/barrel.

In my opinion nuclear powerplants is the best, but still not an option here due to the general public resistance.

Does it pay then, together with bio energy and the like?
I think it is a question of how much to invest to free us of the dependence of Arab oil and Russian gas. In my opinion that investment is worth a huge price tag.

Jorn.
