Don't cut corners, or be fooled by cheap price offerings for precision farming services. GPS grid soil sampling is the foundation for any VRT fertilizer and limestone program. Have samples collected on a 330' x 330' grid pattern (2.5 acres). This will give you a good representation of your soil fertility as well allow you to overlay soil type maps or other management zones for creating recommendations. Ask lots of questions of your potential precision farming service providers. Don't forget to cover the basics such as the number of soil cores pulled for each sample and the depth of sampling. Many cheap programs have cheapened the process by reducing the number of cores taken and this is just not acceptable.
