Subject: RE: Why do you Farm?

Bourbon,Indiana

.....all of the above plus:

--watching a "redtail" catch a rabbit chased out by the combine

--hunting groundhogs/muskrats with the dogs & a favorite rifle

--actually shooting said groundhog/muskrat with a gut full of my beans, then letting the dog eat the hog.

--standing in a warm summer rain and can almost feel your crop get cooled off and start to drink.

--sunrise/sunset(hard to believe city folks don't know what that is like. I have actually stopped the tractor/combine to watch)

--helping a neighbor bring the crops in if injured/sick

--finding a wild bumblebee nest(in the ground usually)

--finding old arrowheads/artifacts after a nice rain on a sandy hill.

--finding that odd shaped/colored rock which you bring home for ma's "rock garden"

--when putting tile in and finding the roots go down old worm holes and realizing that even a small creature like that can have such a massive impact on the soil/crops.

--walking the same ground your grandfather/great grandfather/great great grandfather walked and wondering what they were thinking then, and what they would think about how you are dealing with the legacy they left you.

As the commercial on the boob tube says,   PRICELESS
